Infrastructure Services Engineer

Introduction

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION.  The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year, but can be extended. Applications must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing.  Applications will only be accepted on-line.

Supplemental Questionnaire:  A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application.  Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing.  Failure to submit the Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification

DESCRIPTION

THE COUNTY

THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The Information Technology Department provides services to County Departments to aid in the effective delivery of IT services that support the business needs of the county.

THE DIVISION

The Infrastructure Services Group consists of the following units: network services, server services, radio services, unified communications services, mainframe services, middleware and database services, and operations.; The Infrastructure Group is responsbile for maintenance of production systems; researching new technical developments of the information technology industry; maintaining updates of current trends; providing multi-departmental enterprise production support Countywide; making recommendations and presenting new technologies; meeting with representatives from other County departments to analyze departmental business requirements; developing project plans

 

THE POSITION

Under direction, Infrastructure Services Engineers manage various infrastructure technologies. Areas of responsibility can include: staff supervision; network ; server; unified communications; radio technology; Cloud-based services; middleware; database and mainframe technologies; information security; or workstation, laptop and mobile technologies; and other related duties as required.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications the ideal candidate will have the ability to work in a complex technical environment and possess senior level skills in at least one of the Infrastructure Group disciplines. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service, effective communication, collaboration, problem solving, prioritization of workload, effective decision making, and the ability to manage projects and resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EITHER I
Experience:

The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the class of Senior Infrastructure Services Analyst or in an equivalent or higher-level class in the Alameda County classified service.

 

OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of four years of full-time increasingly responsible infrastructure experience (in one or more of the areas described in Definition section), including design and implementation of enterprise systems including documentation and project management. (Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of experience.)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be available to participate in an on-call rotation and to work after hours, weekends and holidays.
• Possession of a valid California State Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:  1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process; 2) A review of candidates’ Supplemental Questionnaires to select the best qualified applicants to continue in the process; 3) An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral examination may contain situational exercises.
