DESCRIPTION

THE AGENCY

We are currently recruiting for a vacancy in the Probation Department.  However, the eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be used by any County department or agency needing to fill a vacancy.

 

THE POSITION

The basic function of positions in the Supervising Clerk series is to plan, assign, evaluate and supervise the work and operations of a clerical staff consisting of at least two or more full time subordinate employees; to provide training and instruction and make decisions on difficult or sensitive clerical problems; and to accomplish all related procedural and clerical duties and responsibilities in their assigned areas through subordinate employees; and to do related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I

The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the class of Supervising Clerk I or an equivalent or higher level clerical supervisory class in the Alameda County classified service (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office), or two years as a Lead Clerk in the Alameda County classified service.

Completion of the Alameda County Management Academy “Management & Supervision Certificate Program” may substitute for six (6) months of the required qualifying experience.

Or II

The equivalent of two years of full-time clerical experience in a supervisory capacity in a position equivalent to the County's class of Supervising Clerk I.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

Alternate Range Criteria

1. Supervisors of clerical units, the majority of whose subordinates are in a class having a salary range equal to or below that of the class of Clerk II, do not receive the alternate range.

2. Supervisors of clerical units, the majority of whose subordinates are in classes having a salary range above that of the class of Clerk II, are eligible for assignment to the higher applicable salary step and shall be entitled to additional compensation.

NOTE: In positions where such persons meet the "alternate range" criteria as defined in the class specification, (#2) additional compensation may be provided for, pursuant to provisions of the Alameda County Salary Ordinance.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

1). A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.

2). A written test (pass/fail). The highest scoring candidates will move on to the next step in the examination process.

3). An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.

Selection Plan

TENTATIVE SELECTION PLAN:

Deadline for Filing: 5:00pm, Tuesday, May 2, 2017
Review of Minimum Qualifications: by Tuesday, May 16, 2017
Written Examination: Week of May 29, 2017
Oral Interviews*: Week of June 26, 2017

*If designated as a combined oral examination/hiring interview, in addition to establishing an eligibility list, the oral interviews may serve as the final selection interview for vacancies in this classification.
