Introduction

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year, but can be extended.

 

Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application.

 

Additional Requirements: All applicants MUST submit a copy of their DMV Driving Record (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/online/dr/welcome.htm) as well as a copy of their current Class B license with NO air brake restriction. ABOUT THE COUNTY

Alameda County, located on the east side of San Francisco Bay, is California’s seventh-largest county. The County employs 9,080 full-time employees and operates on an annual budget of $2.39 billion. ABOUT THE ALAMEDA COUNTY LIBRARY

 

The Alameda County Library provides library services from ten branch libraries in the cities of Albany, Dublin, Fremont, Newark and Union City and the unincorporated communities of Castro Valley and San Lorenzo. Outreach services are provided through the Bookmobile, the Literacy Program, the Senior Outreach Program, and the County Jails.

The County Library was established in 1910 and is governed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. The Alameda County Library Advisory Commission advises County Librarian Carmen Martinez and the Board of Supervisors on library services.

 The County Library is funded primarily by local property taxes, with additional revenue from State grants and contracts with cities for additional open hours and services. The Board of Supervisors allocates a portion of a utility users and business license tax which is collected only in the unincorporated areas of the County to the Library for service to the unincorporated areas. The Alameda County Library Foundation and active Friends or Library League groups in each community support library programs and services.

THE POSITION

Under supervision, incumbents drive a bookmobile, perform related library clerical duties with extensive public service, and perform other related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

Incumbents in the class of Bookmobile Driver-Clerk load and unload library materials and drive the Library Bookmobile to neighborhoods, elementary schools the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin and other locations throughout Alameda County. They perform clerical duties with extensive public contact in conjunction with the completion of their job tasks. Incumbents in this classification are distinguished from Library Driver-Clerk in that incumbents in the latter classification drive a delivery van and load and unload heavy, bulky supplies, equipment and furniture.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The equivalent of six months’ full-time clerical experience that included extensive public contact and the equivalent of 6 months’ recent full-time experience driving a vehicle of at least 18,000 pound gross vehicle weight (G.V.W.) capacity.

License:

All candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license and a good driving record.

Special Requirements:

1. Possession of a Class B driver's license with air brake certification.
2. Federal law and County policy requires that positions in the class of Bookmobile Driver-Clerk are subject to post-offer/pre-placement/pre-duty, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing.
3. Successful completion of a thorough background investigation by the Department of Justice.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements.

2) Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will be invited to an oral interview exam that will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

 

CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.
