THIS IS A NEW PROMOTIONAL ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION.  The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended. Qualified applicants must be current county employees and have completed the equivalent of six months of continuous service following a regular appointment in the Alameda County classified service (non-classified includes the District Attorney’s Office, the Medical Center, and the Superior Court) by 4/3/2017.  A regular appointment does not include provisional, TAP (Temporary Assignment Pool), or STEP-UP appointments. Applications must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing.  Applications will only be accepted on-line.

DESCRIPTION

THE COUNTY

THE AGENCY

The Mission of the Health Care Services Agency is to provide fully integrated health care services through a comprehensive network of public and private partnerships that ensure optimal health and well-being and respect the diversity of all residents. The Agency’s major services include Behavioral Health Care, Environmental Health, and Public Health programs; primary care services via community-based organization (CBO) contracts, and health care services for all County residents qualifying as medically indigent, as well as Health Care Administration. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

THE POSTION

Under direction, to supervise and review the work of a group of Environmental Health Specialist Trainees, Environmental Health Specialists, Senior Environmental Health Specialists and support staff for conformity with established policy and procedures; to assist in planning, developing and evaluating the Environmental Health Program; to assist the Chief, Environmental Health Operations and/or the Chief, Environmental Protection and to act in his/her absence; and to perform related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This is the first supervisory level in the Environmental Health Specialist series. Incumbents of positions in this class are assigned to a major geographical area comprising several districts or are assigned to a program area. They are responsible for maintaining an adequate level of service and quality and quantity of work in the district/program they supervise.

Supervision is received from the next higher classes Chief, Environmental Health Operations or Chief, Environmental Protection in conferences devoted to work problems, personnel and policy matters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in Environmental Health science or a related field,

AND

Experience:
The equivalent of three years of full-time experience as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist performing a full range of Environmental Health work in a public agency.

Certificate:
Valid certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist in the State of California.

License:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s license.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:  1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process; 2) An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral examination may contain situational exercises.
