THE AGENCY AND DEPARTMENT
The Alameda County General Services Agency (GSA) provides a host of centralized services including building maintenance, procurement and contract administration, capital project management, real property and portfolio management, sustainability services, energy management, environmental and hazardous materials management, transportation services, and other countywide support services. The Building and Maintenance Department (BMD) provides maintenance and janitorial services to County-owned and leased facilities including offices, courts, detention facilities, veterans’ buildings, clinic buildings, parking structures, and storage and training facilities.
Routine services include plant mechanical services; maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems; servicing and repair of building hardware; wall, ceiling and floor finishes; roofing, carpeting, painting, and carpentry services; and janitorial and grounds maintenance services. BMD has a budget of $75 million and consists of 250 employees, including three Facilities Managers, Energy Program Manager, and Janitorial Services Manager. BMD’s diverse and multi-discipline workforce includes janitorial, crafts and trades staff as well as engineers in order to maintain the diverse portfolio of facilities. GSA takes pride in maintaining the various, diverse, and historical facilities throughout Alameda County in excellent condition. Alameda County’s oldest facilities date back to the 1930s and have been well maintained. Approximately 70% of the facilities are owned by Alameda County, with the remainder being leased. An ongoing goal for GSA is to continue.
THE POSITION
Under administrative direction of the Chief Deputy of Operations, the Deputy Director plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs the services and operations of the Building and Maintenance Department (BMD) of the General Services Agency. The Deputy Director, BMD is responsible for maintaining all County buildings, real property management, real estate services, and electronic security and audio visual systems.
