with at least one year of service, and employees who have been affected by lay-off.
Please scroll to the section that applies to you. Click on the appropriate application type (radio button) and
follow the instructions. If you wish to submit an application for a current recruitment or interest in a future
recruitment, please exit this section and return to the Employment Opportunities page.
TRANSFER
You should be in this section if you are a regular or probationary Yolo County employee and want to complete
an application for transfer in your current job class or a different class with the same or a lower salary
range in to a different department.
Please be advised that certain bargaining units restrict transfers for probationary employees.
If you are a probationary employee, please check your Memorandum of Understanding for more information before selecting this option.
Transfer Options
Human Resources maintains lists of County employees who are eligible for transfer. When a department requests a certification list
for a job class, the names and applications of employees on the transfer list are sent to the department along with candidates from
an active eligible list. In most cases, current employees desiring a transfer receive first consideration for the open position.
Transfer Criteria
- You must be a permanent or probationary county employee(subject to MOU criteria).
- You must transfer to the same classification or to a different classification at the same or a lower salary range, in a different department.
- You must meet the minimum qualifications of the new classification.
Usually there is no change of benefits for employees; however some loss or gain of benefits can occur in various situations.
Please contact Human Resources at (530) 666-8055 if you have any questions.
Transfer Process
An application is required in order for you to be placed on a transfer list. Human Resources will review your transfer
application for eligibility. You will be notified of your transfer status. Click below to access Classification Specifications,
click on the classification title link for the class in which you wish to be considered as a transfer candidate, and
follow the directions at the top of the classification specification to complete the application process.
Your name will be placed on a transfer list(s) for one (1) year as long as you continue to be eligible for transfer.
Your name will be certified to departments along with other candidates from valid eligible lists when vacant positions are approved to fill.
Your name may be removed from the transfer list if you waive an appointment twice or if your name has been certified three times.
You will not be notified when the one year period has expired.
EXTRA HELP EMPLOYMENT FOR FORMER EMPLOYEES
You should be in this section if you are a former employee with at least one year of service with Yolo County, or service or
disability retired from Yolo County employment and you wish to be considered for extra-help positions.
Extra Help Option
Many former Yolo County employees are uniquely qualified to step right in to a county position with little or no training,
and bring valuable knowledge and experience to a job. Departments frequently ask if there are lists available of individuals
interested in working to complete specific projects, and/or to cover for regular employees out of the office on vacation or medical leaves.
CalPERS law limits the use of extra-help retirees to no more than 960 hours per fiscal year. In addition, CalPERS disability
retirees must request reemployment approval prior to starting extra help employment under this option. Individuals who were
approved for disability retirement should contact CalPERS directly at (888) 225-7377 for information about working
after retirement without jeopardizing your CalPERS retirement benefits.
Extra Help Process
Click below to access Classification Specifications, click on the classification title link for the class in which you wish to be considered for extra help employment, and follow the directions at the top of the classification specification to complete the application process.
Human Resources will review your application for eligibility and notify you of your status. You will remain active on the
respective extra help list(s) for one (1) year. You will not be notified when the one year period has expired.
EMPLOYMENT FOLLOWING LAYOFF
You should be in this section if you were a regular, non-probationary Yolo County employee who was laid off from employment within the last two (2) years and you wish to be considered for other positions in the county for which you meet the minimum qualifications.
This option is different from and does not affect a laid off employee's status on a valid reemployment list. A reemployment list provides reemployment to a laid off employee for the classification held at the time of layoff. This option in no way provides a laid off employee with any right of reemployment beyond those rights already provided for in the employee's respective Memorandum of Understanding.
Employment Following Layoff Option
This Employment Following Layoff option provides an opportunity for a laid off employee to be considered for positions that are different than the former employee's classification provided he or she meets the minimum qualifications for the different position.
Human Resources maintains lists of County employees laid off within the last two (2) years who wish to be considered for positions in the county that are different than the former employee's last position held. When a department requests a certification list for a job class, the names and applications of former employees on the Employment Following Layoff list are sent to the department for consideration along with the candidates from an active eligible list.
