The General Services Department provides essential support services to the County. Specifically, building maintenance and engineering staff in the Facilities Operations Division to maintain buildings, structures and specialized equipment for County owned, occupied and leased facilities. The Journey level Stationary Engineering position utilizes considerable knowledge of theory and practice of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, electricity, hydraulics, thermal dynamics refrigeration and electronics; the installation, maintenance, operation, repair, and balancing of environmental systems in a commercial setting.

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for operating, repairing and maintaining heating, ventilating, cooling, direct digital control systems and refrigeration systems in County buildings. Incumbents are typically assigned responsibility for a specific building complex. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will: The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Considerable heating, ventilating, air conditioning and/or refrigeration experience which included trouble shooting and analyzing problems concerning pneumatic, electric and electronic systems and which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. The typical qualifying experience would be four (4) years of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and/or refrigeration experience which include trouble shooting and analyzing problems concerning pneumatic, electric and electronic systems and which demonstrate possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. SUPPLEMENTAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C driver’s license issued by the State of California is required. Possession of or ability to obtain EPA Universal Certification for Refrigerants is highly desirable. Incumbents must be able to work independently and be able to work around high-pressure equipment under extreme temperature ranges. Work may include lifting objects weighing more than 100 pounds. Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2016 calendar year is $1,455.62 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage.
Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County. Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security. Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year. Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years. To be eligible, applicants must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the final filing date. Applicants who have a service connected disability must submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.
Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions shall have five (5) points added to their combined score.
