The Position

The college intern receives work experience and instruction in performing a wide variety of tasks that may include public contact and/or research; assists in the performance of skilled clerical, technical or professional duties.

Health and Social Services

Health and Social Services is seeking an upper level undergraduate or graduate level intern to help design and implement a new internet website for the department. A primary feature of the new website will be integration and access to local resources using customizable templates designed to target specific populations (families, older adults, etc). The upper level undergraduate or graduate level intern will aid Department staff in redesigning the existing website to cater to information needs by target populations while assessing the best way to incorporate NOC functionality.  In addition, Health and Social Services Department consists of several divisions including Public Health, Mental Health, Older and Disabled Adult Services, Child Welfare Services and Employment and Eligibility; in addition to various administrative functions (Fiscal, Investigations, Contracts, Compliance, etc) which must be represented on the new internet website. 

 

The intern will be responsible for documenting requirements and goals of the website redesign; researching best practices on the website navigation and design and making recommendations on how to achieve goals of the website redesign; facilitating workgroups to review existing content and develop content as needed; define and monitor a work plan including interim goals and timeline to complete implementation of the website redesign.  Health and Social Services department serves more than 1 in 4 Solano residents.  The Department mission is to safeguard the physical, emotional and social well-being of the residents of Solano County.

 

Desired Majors: Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems, Business, Public Administration, Public Policy, Marketing or related fields. 

 

Library

 

The Library is currently seeking an upper level undergraduate or graduate level intern(s) to create a marketing campaign and assist the Volunteer Coordinator.  The intern(s) will be responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting data related to library use patterns and will use that data to formulate a marketing campaign to increase library use, measured by an increase in library card registration.  Increase library use and awareness is an overarching goal of the Marketing and Community Relations office of Solano County Library.  

Intern(s) will be responsible for creating short video, audio, visual and written content for social media channels and in-person presentations for the purpose of increasing awareness and use of the library in the broader community.  They will also assist the Volunteer Coordinator in revamping volunteer roles to attract new volunteers.

Desired Majors: Marketing, Advertising, Communication or related fields. 

This recruitment is intended to fill College Intern (Extra-Help) positions. Extra-help employees do not have rights to a regular position or continued employment and are excluded from civil service. The hours worked may be part-time or full-time, but hours cannot exceed more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.    

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

Upper Division Level

To qualify at the Upper Division Level applicants must provide transcripts to validate completion of 60 semester units or more (90 quarter units) or provide proof of conferred degree and date from an accredited college.

OR

Graduate Level

To qualify at the Graduate Level completion of a bachelors’ degree from an accredited college/university and currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree Program is required. Continued enrollment is required throughout internship.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License may be required.

Proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university must be provided.

BENEFITS

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Sick Leave for every full hour worked.
