The Position

Solano County is recruiting for a Social Services Supervisor. Social Services Supervisors plan, organize, and supervise the work of a unit of social workers providing adult and/or child protective services, licensing, adoptions, dependency investigations, information and referral, and other social services; provides administrative oversight and supervision to allied medical, mental health, and substance professional staff assigned to the unit and performs related duties as required.

The Social Services Supervisor is the first level supervisor for social workers providing a variety of adult and/or children’s services. Job incumbents supervise both administrative and technical groups of social workers and may provide administrative supervision over medical, mental health, and substance abuse professional staff under a system of matrix management (providing functional supervision to professionals in other disciplines, i.e. Public Health Nurse)   

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Either:

Criteria I: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university AND Seven years of experience performing professional level social work with a public social services agency or private social services provider.

OR

Criteria II: Possession of a Master’s degree in Social Services (MSW) OR a two-year graduate level counseling degree AND Five years post degree experience performing professional level social work with a public social services agency or private social services provider.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2016 calendar year is $1,455.62 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. Employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage receive a $50/month supplemental County contribution into the cafeteria plan. 

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year. 

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per years for the first 3 years. 

Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.  

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. Supplemental Information

  • Driver’s License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class C Driver’s License may be required at the time of appointment. Loss of the Class C Driver’s License is a cause for discipline. Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.  A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT within five (5) days of application submittal.  Applicants who have a service connected disability must also submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.
