The Position

The Legal Secretary performs a variety of difficult and complex clerical and administrative support work in connection with the preparation, processing, coordinating, and/or filing of criminal and/or civil cases.  This is the journey-level in the Legal Secretary series and the incumbent is responsible for providing advanced clerical and administrative support in the preparation, processing, coordination, tracking, and filing of cases. 

The current vacancy exists for a regular full-time position.  The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time regular, limited-term and extra-help positions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience: One (1) year of full-time work experience in preparing and processing legal documents, preferably for a governmental agency, including 6 months experience in a legal secretary capacity that demonstrates possession of and competency in the requisite knowledge and abilities.

Education: A high school diploma or GED is required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: You must possess bilingual skills in Spanish to qualify for this recruitment.

BENEFITS

The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage.

n Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.  

n Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.  

n Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, and 30 years.

Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.  A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE, MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE.  Applicants who have a service connected disability must submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.  Disability must be rated at least 10% to be eligible for disabled veteran's points.
