The Legal Procedures Clerk (Entry) performs a variety of routine clerical support work in the processing of legal and other official documents such as court actions, subpoenas, and criminal warrants, under general supervision.

Legal Procedures Clerks can be found in the District Attorney's Office, Sheriff's Office, Probation Department, and Department of Health & Social Services.

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill regular full-time and part-time, limited-term, or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or GED;

AND

Experience: Three months of full-time clerical work experience;

AND

Certification: A typing certificate showing a 40WPM NET speed (after errors). Please see "Document Submittal Requirements" below for details regarding this requirement.

6/08/15 - County Typing Test, please see "Document Submittal Requirements" below for more information about testing for the required certificate.

6/12/15 - Deadline to submit application and all required documents.

7/01/15 - Tentative date for Written Exam.

TBD - Tentative date for Oral Board Interview.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants will be invited for further examination. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a written and/or practical exam, an oral interview, or any combination listed. Document Submittal Requirements

This position requires submittal of a valid typing certificate. All candidates must submit a copy of their typing certificate by the final filing deadline. Failure to submit the required certificates will result in immediate disqualification from further consideration in the recruitment process.

Certificate Requirements

A typing certificate must show a net typing speed of 40 WPM. It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency, and must contain the examiner’s signature. Certificates obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted.

Certificate Testing 

The County is offering a typing test at no cost on June 8, 2015 from 8:15am-10:00am for the Legal Procedure Clerk (Entry) recruitment only. This is the only date available and space is limited.

Interested applicants who have completed and submitted the online application should email recruitment@solanocounty.com to sign up for a slot by 5pm, Thursday, June 4, 2015.

UPDATE: As of June 2, 2015 all County typing test slots are full. Candidates wishing to be placed on the waiting list in the event of a cancellation may email recruitment@solanocounty.com.

Supplemental Information

Positions allocated to this class may require bilingual skills.
 
Recruiting requirements may be set to test typing, word processing and/or data entry speed, however, these skills are not the primary areas to be measured in the selection process.
 
Candidates for positions in this class will be required to pass a background investigation in accordance with applicable law, regulation and/or policy.
 
May need to obtain CLETS training and authorization.
 
Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver’s license may be required.
 
Incumbents in this classification may be flexibly staffed to the Legal Procedures Clerk Journey, without further examination, after the successful completion of one-year of satisfactory performance upon the approval and discretion of the Department Head.
 
Independent travel may be required. 
 

Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicants must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the final filing deadline.

 

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions shall have five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans (rated at not less than 30% disability) shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
