The Position

The Accounting Supervisor, under general direction, plans, organizes and supervises the work of a unit of accounting/clerical staff; assists in the development and implementation of an account records system; additionally, this position serves as a member of the department’s management/supervisory team.

This class is characterized by the responsibility to supervise the work of a group of employees engaged in the maintenance of an account records system.  As the Accounting Supervisor, you would perform advanced journey level bookkeeping and identify/assist with the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and systems necessary to develop and/or implement changes in the department.

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

 

Four (4) years experience as an Accounting Clerk III or equivalent, OR

 

Two (2) years experience as an Accounting Technician or equivalent, OR

 

Three (3) years experience combined Accounting Clerk III and Accounting Technician  

 

AND  

 

One (1) of the following:  

 

A.A. in Business Administration, OR

 

A.S. in Accounting, OR

 

A total of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college; 6 semester or 9 quarter units must be in principles of accounting. All documents must be submitted no later than the final filing date.

 

All candidates must submit a copy of their Intermediate Excel Certificate showing a skill level of at least 70% by the final filing date.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a comprehensive benefit package to full and part-time employees which includes a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits offered through CalPERS. The County contributes 75% of the Kaiser family rate for the Bay area for coverage that begins the first of the month following date of hire. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only medical coverage or those who waive medical insurance coverage. Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement, and contributes to Social Security.

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 78 full time pay periods (approximately 3 years). Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.  Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

The bargaining agreement for this position expires on September 28, 2015.  The Union is currently in bargaining with the County for wage, hours, benefits and other working conditions for employment.

The written exam for this recruitment is tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2015. Qualified candidates will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule.

(2) Candidates who attended a college or university that is accredited by a foreign or non-US accrediting agency must have their educational units evaluated by an educational evaluation service.  The evaluation must include the name of the educational evaluation service, the date, and the name of the evaluator.  Contact your local college or university to learn where you can obtain this service.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT

All candidates must submit a copy of their Intermediate Excel Certificate. The Intermediate Excel certificate must show proficiency at 70% or higher.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency, and must contain the examiner’s signature.  Certificates obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted.  

The Excel Certificate must be received in Human Resources no later than 5:00 pm on the final filing date. Failure to submit the certificate will disqualify you from the recruitment.  

Solano County is also offering free testing on Excel for this recruitment on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Seating is very limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.  A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the final filing date.
