The Position

As an Accounting Clerk II, you will be responsible for processing accounts payable, receiving and examining invoices, statements for services rendered, and other billing documents; processing accounts receivable; posting financial transactions into manual and/or automated accounting systems among other clerical, bookkeeping and statistical reporting tasks. These are fast paced positions that require attention to detail and the ability to multi-task. We currently have openings for full-time regular and extra-help positions with multiple departments throughout the County.  The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time regular, part-time  limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Criteria I: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year full-time work experience as an Accounting Clerk I or equivalent.  

OR  

Criteria II: Six (6) months full time work experience as an Accounting Clerk I or equivalent

AND

6 semester units or 9 quarter units in principles of accounting courses from an accredited college.

This position requires a Basic Excel spreadsheet certificate which must be submitted no later than the final filing date. Please see the Document Submittal Requirements section of this announcement for details on how to obtain this certificate.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a comprehensive benefit package to full and part-time employees which includes a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits offered through CalPERS. The County contributes 75% of the Kaiser family rate for the Bay area for coverage that begins the first of the month following date of hire. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only medical coverage or those who waive medical insurance coverage. Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement, and contributes to Social Security.

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 78 full time pay periods (approximately 3 years). Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

The bargaining agreement for this position expires on September 28, 2015. The Union is currently in bargaining with the County for wage, hours, benefits and other working conditions for employment.

 

Selection Process

The written exam for this recruitment is tentatively scheduled for September 22, 2015. Qualified candidates will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule.

All candidates must submit a Basic Excel certificate verifying skills at 70% or higher.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency, and must contain the examiner’s signature.  A certificate obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted. The Excel Certificate must be received in Human Resources no later than 5:00 pm on the final filing date. Failure to submit the certificate will disqualify you from the recruitment.

Solano County is also offering free testing on Excel for this recruitment on August 26, 2015. Seating is very limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.  A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the final filing date.
