The Mission of Family Health Services Dental Clinic is to provide comprehensive and preventative dental services that are of high quality and appropriate to the low income and indigent residents of Solano County.

 

The Position

The Dental Assistant, Registered will be assisting a dentist or dental hygienist in chair-side functions such as; application of topical agents, removal of dental dressings, and sutures.  The incumbent will prepare patients for treatment and examination.  The Dental Assistant, Registered will also take and develop x-rays, sterilize and care for dental instruments and perform clerical activities related to dental clinical operations. The list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Training and Experience:

Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certificate from the Board of Dental Examiners, State of California indicating license number and certification to operate oral x-ray equipment. (Please see document submittal sections for document requirements)

AND

Graduation from High School or General Education Diploma (GED) or a high school proficiency certificate.                                                                       

AND

Supplemented by (1) full year of full-time work experience as a dental assistant that demonstrates possession of and competency in the requisite knowledge and abilities; completion of a required course on dental assistance may be substituted for six (6) months of the required experience. (This experience requirement is typically met by the RDA Certificate).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in the class are required to take x-rays and must be certified, by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners, Department of Consumer Affairs to operate an oral x-ray equipment.

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license may be required.  

Some positions may require bilingual skills.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a comprehensive benefit package to full and part-time employees which includes a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits offered through CalPERS. The County contributes 75% of the Kaiser family rate for the Bay area for coverage that begins the first of the month following date of hire. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only medical coverage or those who waive medical insurance coverage. Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement, and contributes to Social Security.

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 78 full time pay periods (approximately 3 years). Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

Selection Process

Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.  A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the final filing date.
