Introduction

The Department of Resource Management is a comprehensive agency comprised of the Public Works, Building and Safety, Planning Services, Environmental Health Services, Parks and Administrative Services Divisions. The department provides for the well-being of Solano  County's present and future residents and the public at-large through administration and enforcement of Federal, State, and Local laws and policies pertaining to transportation, building construction, land use planning environmental health, and recreation.

The Parks & Recreation Division of the Department of Resource Management is the Steward of Solano County's natural and cultural resources.  The Division creates safe environments and showcases the County's facilities in order for visitors to enjoy diverse recreational experiences.

The Position

The Park Ranger Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of staff and the operation of an assigned County park. The incumbent will plan, prioritize, direct and evaluate work.  Additionally, the Park Ranger Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of their assigned park and has ultimate responsibility for law enforcement activities resulting in citations or arrests at the assigned park. The incumbent will deal with the public in both a service and regulatory capacity.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Four years of experience in park maintenance and enforcement of park regulations, including experience and training in assisting in emergencies such as vehicle accidents, conflicts between visitors, theft, misuse and damage of property, missing children, drownings, fire, and medical calls; AND

Education/Training:  Associate’s degree, or above, from an accredited college or university in park administration, recreation management, criminal justice, natural resource management, or a closely related field.

Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicants must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the application review date. Applicants who have a service connected disability must submit  a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons. 

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions shall have five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans (rated at not less than 30% disability) shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
