The Position

Under supervision, an Accounting Technician performs advanced accounting support, bookkeeping and statistical reporting and recording activities and/or leads the work of a unit performing these tasks; processes accounts payable and receivable; posts financial transactions to automated accounting system; researches and audits claims for accuracy and completeness; balances statements and produces fiscal reports; assists in budget preparation and projections; may assist in the development and implementation of an account records system and automated system; performs related duties as required.

The current vacancy is in the Department of Health & Social Services for a regular full-time position.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.  

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Two (2) years full-time work experience as an Accounting Clerk II or Accounting Clerk III, or equivalent AND   One (1) of the following:   A.A. in Business Administration, OR A.S. in Accounting, OR A total of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college; 6 semester or 9 quarter units must be in principles of accounting.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a comprehensive benefit package to full and part-time employees which includes a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits offered through CalPERS. The County contributes 75% of the Kaiser family rate for the Bay area for coverage that begins the first of the month following date of hire. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only medical coverage or those who waive medical insurance coverage.

 

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

 

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement, and contributes to Social Security.

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 78 full time pay periods (approximately 3 years). Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

Document Submittal Requirements

Education documents and an Intermediate Excel certificate are required for this recruitment. All candidates must submit a copy of their college degree (if in Accounting or Business Administration) or transcrips (verifying the number of accounting and other units completed) and an Intermediate Excel Spreadsheet certificate by the final filing date. Candidates who fail to submit their degree or transcripts and certificate by the final filing date will be disqualified from the recruitment. 

 

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:  Candidates who attended a college or university that is accredited by a foreign or non-U.S. accrediting agency must have their educational units evaluated by an educational evaluation service.  The result must be submitted to the Human Resources Department no later than the close of the recruitment.  Please contact the local college or university to learn where this service can be obtained.

 

Excel Certificate Requirements: An Intermediate Excel certificate must show proficiency at 70% or higher.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency, and must contain the examiner’s signature.  Certificate obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted.

 

Excel Testing: The County is offering an Excel test at no charge on 7/16/15 for the Accounting Technician recruitment only.  Interested applicants who have completed and submitted the recruitment application must contact the Department of Human Resources by phone at 707-784-7911 no later than 5:00pm on 7/15/15. This is the only date available. Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicants must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the final filing date.

 

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions shall have five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans (rated at not less than 30% disability) shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
