Introduction

Capital Projects Management Division

The Department of General Services assists County departments in achieving their public service mission by providing essential support services through creative, innovative, and sensible business solutions. General Services fosters a collaborative, customer service-oriented culture that strives for continuous improvement.

The Capital Projects Management (CPM) Division is responsible for managing real estate development and building/improvement projects that house County programs and services using a wide variety of project delivery methods for:

  • New Construction and Additions
  • Alterations and Renovations
  • Building Systems Upgrades
  • Environmental Monitoring/Remediation
  • Furnishing, Fixtures, and Equipment Modifications

The Position

General Services is looking for a qualified Capital Projects Coordinator - Senior with advanced level experience managing county facilities improvement projects including new construction renovation, space utilization, and capital improvement planning. This position reports to the Capital Projects Manager who manages the CPM Division.     

The Ideal Candidate is:

  • An analytical/strategic thinker and creative problem solver that is organizationally and politically astute
  • Knowledgeable in construction management, design, building systems, real estate development, fiscal management, and project delivery methods, and legal requirements pertaining to capital improvements
  • A skilled communicator with strong customer service skills
  • Collaborative and team-oriented  

Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college with a major in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Real Estate, Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field;  AND 

Experience: Four years of full-time paid experience in an architectural, engineering, real estate project management/development, or managing construction projects with responsibility for cost recommendations, contract administration and quality control; AND 

Licensing, Certification and Registration:

  • Applicants are required to possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid California Driver’s License, Class C.
  • Advanced Computer Aided Drafting certification, including 3D-modeling software proficiency, from an accredited academic institution is desired.
  • The possession of valid certificate of registration as an Engineer or Architect in the State of California is desired.
  • The possession of certification as a Construction Manager by the Construction Management Association of America or certification as a Construction Manager accredited by the American National Standards Institute is desired. 

Note:  All licenses, certificates and registrations must be kept current while employed in this class.

BENEFITS

  • Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2015 calendar year is $1,393.18 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only medical coverage or those who waive medical insurance coverage.
  • Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.
  • Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement, and contributes to Social Security.
  • Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 78 full time pay periods (approximately 3 years).
  • Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.  Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

Selection Process

8/14/15 - Deadline to submit application and required documents.

8/26/15 - Tentative date for Oral Board interviews for most qualified applicants.

Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicants must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.
