The Position

Under general direction, the Nursing Services Director assesses the level of public health nursing services and clinic nursing services with the goal that these services meet the needs of the community, and facilitates the development of any needed public health policies and procedures.  The Nursing Services Director collaborates with local community agencies and partners to assure the availability of public health and clinic nursing services and to identify and address health disparities in the community. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Administration, Public Health Nursing, Health Administration or other closely related field;

AND

Five (5) years of responsible public health nursing experience including at least three years’ experience in a management capacity which included responsibilities such as supervision, program planning, budgeting, program evaluation, and quality control and compliance.  

LICENSING, CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants are required to possess a valid Registered Nurse license issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
  • Applicants are required to be certified as a Public Health Nurse by the California State Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
  • Applicants are required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, Class C.   
  • Note:  All licenses, certificates and registrations must be kept current while employed in this class. This may include the completion of continuing education units to maintain the required registration in good standing. 

Independent travel is required.

The County may conduct a background check and a reference check on candidates prior to appointment to a position within this class.    

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a comprehensive benefit package to full and part-time employees which includes a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits offered through CalPERS. The County contributes 75% of the Kaiser family rate for the Bay area for coverage that begins the first of the month following date of hire. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only medical coverage or those who waive medical insurance coverage. Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement, and contributes to Social Security.

Administrative leave - 80 hours each July 1st; prorated during the first fiscal year.

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 78 full time pay periods (approximately 3 years). Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.
