The Department of Resource Management is a comprehensive agency comprised of the Public Works, Building and Safety, Planning Services, Environmental Health Services, Parks, and Administrative Services Divisions. The department provides for the well-being of Solano County's present and future residents and the public at-large through administration and enforcement of Federal, State, and Local laws and policies pertaining to transportation, building construction, land use planning, environmental health, and recreation.

The Building and Safety Services Division performs building plan reviews, issues building, and other construction related permits, performs inspections of permitted construction and building improvements for compliance with all applicable codes and regulations, and enforces mandated State and Federal Codes, as well as County adopted California Building Standards Codes.

The Position

The Department of Resource Management is looking for a seasoned Building Official to lead the Building Division. The ideal candidate will be expected to manage and direct the work of the Building Division in the enforcement of federal, state, and county building codes, vehicle abatement, fire safety, building code enforcement programs, and establishment of County property addresses.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience: 
Four years of experience in public sector building inspection involving the regulation and enforcement of building, vehicle abatement and building fire codes which include two years of supervisory experience.
 
Education/Training:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, preferably with coursework in management, architecture, planning or engineering. Certification as a Certified Access Specialist (CASP) is highly desirable.

BENEFITS

§ The County participates in the CalPERS retirement 2% @ 60 for current members of PERS from another agency (or reciprocal retirement system) and 2% @ 62 for new members.

§ Longevity Pay: Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay after the completion of continuous service at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years. Employees may receive credit for prior years of service employed with California cities, counties, joint power authorities, and other special districts.

§ Vacation: 20 days per year.

§ Administrative Leave: 80 hours per year.

§ A cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. Medical insurance is effective the first of the month following date of hire.  The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage.

§ Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.
