The Auditor-Controller's Office exercises general supervision of the financial information and accounts of all departments, districts and agencies under the control of the Board of Supervisors; establishes accounting policies; interacts with other County management in identifying countywide opportunities that affect fiscal and administrative policies; and manages the countywide accounting system.

The Position

Under general direction, plans, organizes and supervises the work of a unit of accounting/clerical staff; assists in the development and implementation of an account records system; serves as a member of the department’s management/supervisory team; performs related duties as required.

This class is characterized by the responsibility to supervise the work of a group of employees engaged in the maintenance of an account records system.  Incumbents perform advanced journey level bookkeeping and identify and assist with the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and systems necessary to develop and/or implement changes in the department.

The current vacancy exists in the Auditor-Controller's Office for a regular, full-time position.

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

Four (4) years experience as an Accounting Clerk III or equivalent, OR

Two (2) years experience as an Accounting Technician or equivalent, OR

Three (3) years experience combined Accounting Clerk III and Accounting Technician  

AND  

One (1) of the following:  

A.A. in Business Administration, OR

A.S. in Accounting, OR

A total of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college; 6 semester or 9 quarter units must be in principles of accounting.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a comprehensive benefit package to full and part-time employees which includes a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits offered through CalPERS.  The County contributes 75% of the Kaiser family rate for the Bay Area coverage that begins the first of the month following date of hire.  The County offers cash back provision for those who choose employee-only medical coverage or those who waive medical insurance coverage.  Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.  

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.  

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 78 full time pay periods (approximately 3 years).  Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.  Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

Selection Process

The written exam for this recruitment is tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2014. Qualified candidates will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule.

Licensing/Certification Req

All candidates must submit a copy of their Intermediate Excel Certificate. The Intermediate Excel  certificate must show proficiency at 70% or higher.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency, and must contain the examiner’s signature.  Certificates obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted.

 

The County is offering an Intermediate Excel Certificate exam at no charge tentatively scheduled on Friday, November 14, 2014.  Interested applicants must sign-up with the Department of Human Resources.  Seats are limited; therefore, we recommend to sign up early.  PLEASE CONTACT HUMAN RESOURCES BY NOON ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2014 TO ARRANGE YOUR TIME TO TAKE THE EXCEL EXAM IF NEEDED.

Veterans Preference Points
