The Department of Health and Social Services is seeking Social Workers to provide direct social services to individuals and families of Solano County.

The Position

The ideal candidate has experience and/or specialized education/training in preparation for work in Child Welfare Services or Employment and Eligibility Services or Older and Disabled Adult Services.

The Social Worker III works under consultative supervision and independently perform casework duties involving legally mandated matters affecting adults and children. Assignments are often characterized by specialized casework, time limitations and responsibility imposed by the legal system in a wide range of highly sensitive investigations and interventions required by life threatening circumstances.

The list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS  

Either I - Two years of experience equivalent to the Social Worker II in Solano County.  

OR II - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with coursework that has preferably included thirty (30) semester units in social welfare, sociology, psychology, counseling, gerontology, vocational guidance or other related behavioral science. AND

Three years of experience performing professional level social work with a public social services agency or private social services provider. (Preferably including substantial experience with abused/neglected children and/or adults)  

OR III - Possession of a Master’s degree in Social Services (MSW) or a two year graduate level counseling degree emphasizing marriage, family and child counseling, gerontology, or clinical psychology. (Both the MSW and the two-year counseling degree must have included supervised fieldwork or an internship) This requirement may be met by a letter from an accredited college or university that states current enrollment in a Master’s degree program and confirms graduation with a Master’s degree in Social Services (MSW) will be conferred within three (3) months. AND

Two years of experience performing social work with a public social services agency or private social services provider. (Preferably including substantial experience with abused/neglected children and/or adults). This requirement may be met by completion of a two (2) year social work internship through an accredited college or university.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a comprehensive benefit package to full and part-time employees which includes a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits offered through CalPERS. The County contributes 75% of the Kaiser family rate for the Bay area for coverage that begins the first of the month following date of hire. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only medical coverage or those who waive medical insurance coverage. Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

 Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement, and contributes to Social Security.

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 78 full time pay periods (approximately 3 years). Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. Additionally, the County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

Selection Process

The next written exam for this recruitment is tentatively scheduled for TBD.  Qualified candidates will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule.

Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.  A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the final filing date. Applicants who have a service connected disability must submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.   

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions shall have five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans (rated at not less than 30% disability) shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
