The Family Health Services Dental Clinic’s mission is to provide comprehensive and preventative dental services to the low income and indigent residents of Solano County that are of high quality and appropriate. The Dental Clinic staff provides emergency dental services, children’s dental services, diagnostic and preventive dental services, essential dental services (fillings, root canals, oral surgery), and comprehensive restorative dental services (dentures, crowns).                        

The Dental Clinic recently expanded its operations by opening an Oral Health Education office inside the medical clinic in Vallejo, started operating a Mobile Dental Van, and opened a dental clinic in Vacaville.

The Position

Dentists, under direction, provide professional dental services in the County-wide Dental Clinics or correctional facilities; performs related duties as required.

This class is characterized by the responsibility to provide dental services to patients at various County clinics or detention facilities.  This class is distinguished from the class of Dentist Manager in that the latter manages the County-wide dental health program.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

 

Considerable experience in dentistry coupled with additional experience and education or training in public health services which demonstrates possession of requisite knowledge, competency, and ability.  Typical qualifying experience would be:

  • One year experience in the practice of dentistry in a public agency or private practice.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS  

  • Possession of a valid and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of California issued by the Board of Dental Examiners.  
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California Driver’s License may be required.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2016 calendar year is $1,455.62 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. Employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage receive a $50/month supplemental County contribution into the cafeteria plan. 

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County. 

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.    

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years.

Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.  

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year. 

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants will be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. Supplemental Information

  • Independent travel will be required.
  • Selectees for employment must as a condition of employment sign a statement agreeing to comply with Section 11166 pf the California Penal Code relating to child abuse reporting.
  • Incumbent must be able to work in a clinical environment which may include exposure to communicable disease.

Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.  A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE.  Applicants who have a service connected disability must also submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.
