Introduction

This recruitment is being given to fill one (1) temporary part-time vacancy in San Joaquin General Hospital's Biomedical Engineering Department and to create a referral pool to fill future part-time vacancies. TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Tests electrical circuits and components to locate ground potential or current leakage that may be hazardous to patients or employees.
  • Participates in equipment and safety inspections; records electrical measurement readings on equipment history files.
  • Learns to repair and adjust a variety of medical equipment; learns to utilize schematic diagrams and test instruments to locate malfunctions. May perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Assists in maintenance of records on tests, inspections, repairs and preventive maintenance programs.
  • May request repair parts; may stock or request items for spare parts inventory.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Note:  Supplemental application must be submitted with employment application.

    Education: Completion of 30 semester units in an accredited college or university with a major in electronics or a related area or completion of an advanced military electronics school.

    Substitution: Experience in the repair, maintenance or modification of medical equipment may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.

    KNOWLEDGE

    Fundamentals of analog and digital electronics working principals of electricity; A.C. and D.C. network analysis related math; occupational hazards and safety precautions.

    ABILITY

    Learn to repair and adjust medical equipment; follow oral and written instructions exactly; maintain written records; express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    Selection Procedures

    Applicants for part-time and temporary recruitments who meet the minimum qualifications are either referred to the hiring department for further selection or they may be required to take a written examination.  If a written examination is given, the top candidates may be referred to the hiring department for further selection.

    Physical Exam:  Some classifications require physical examinations.  Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the physical examination.  The County pays for physical examinations administered in its medical facilities.

    Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent, child, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) either by blood or marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or within the department when:

    • They are related to the Appointing Authority, or

    • The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other

    Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule.
