SALARY: $24.99 per hour

FILING PERIOD: Open Until Filled

TENTATIVE EXAMINATION DATE: TBA

TYPICAL DUTIES: Incumbents in this class are responsible for following clearly established procedures in performing law enforcement, crime prevention, coroner duties, and/or correctional tasks.  Incumbents are Academy Certified Sworn Peace Officers.  May supervise inmates in a variety of activities at detention facilities. Serves as bailiff; maintains security of and order in the court and removes disorderly persons when necessary; provides for security and safety of judges, jury deliberations, jurors, and the public; provides security and transportation of inmates to and from courts and other locations as required. Serves and executes the civil process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from high school or satisfactory completion of a G.E.D. test (scores must meet level established by Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission).

Licenses &Certificates: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a valid POST Basic Academy Completion Certificate.

Special Requirements:

Be at least 21 years of age upon appointment.

Meet minimum standards required for Peace Officers as set forth in Section 1029 and 1031 of the Government Code.

Pass background investigation conducted by Sheriff’s Department.

Meet physical standards established for safety members.

Knowledge of: Basic social aspects of law enforcement; general human behavior; public relations principles; language usage and mechanics; first aid.

Ability to: Learn principles and methods used in the control and custody of prisoners; learn principles and methods used in general law enforcement; supervise activities of individuals in custody; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain routine records and reports; read and understand legal and other job related material; work effectively with prisoners, fellow officers, public officials and general public.
