2105 PATIENT SERVICES FINANCE TECHNICIAN

Under general supervision, the Patient Services Finance Technician is responsible for providing technical support and acting as liaison between patients, staff, claims examiners, insurance company representatives, and State and Federal funding sources to ensure the complete and accurate charging for patient services in the Department of Public Health. The essential functions include: reconciling medical record documentation and corresponding charges for accuracy; performing clerical audits of medical records for appropriate documentation to support disability-related claims; reviewing and monitoring patient services for completeness and accuracy; assisting in the development, modification, and implementation of patient service charging procedures. The Patient Services Finance Technician performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Two (2) years of experience performing medical charge reimbursement activities: OR
2. Completion of requirements for a recognized one (1) year Medical Assistant certificate, two (2) year Medical Assistant degree, or a certificate in medical office management AND six (6) months of experience in a medical office/department monitoring charge and reimbursement services.
NOTE:
During the probationary period, employees will be required to demonstrate knowledge of basic medical terminology; medical claims processing; workers’ compensation; International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) Codes; insurance systems such as Medi-Cal, Medicare and Short Doyle; personal computer skills; and oral communication skills to interact with staff, patients, family members and government/private funding sources. Failure to demonstrate these knowledge, skills and abilities may result in dismissal and/or termination from employment.

Training and Experience Evaluation:
A training and experience evaluation will be administered on all applicants meeting the Minimum Qualifications. Candidates’ score and rank will be determined by an evaluation of application materials along with verifications and related documentation to establish relative knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas, which may include, but not limited to: Knowledge of basic medical terminology; knowledge of medical claims processing procedures; knowledge of modern medical office procedures; and knowledge of insurance systems and billing procedures; ability to monitor the charging process for patient services; and oral communications skills…………………………………………………..100%
The certification rule will be Rule of Three Scores. All candidates who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final score.\
