Under general supervision, the Physical Therapist provides physical therapy treatments to a diverse client population such as an acute care and long-term care hospitals, senior programs, mental health centers, outpatient services, home health, schools and other similar institutions. Essential functions include: evaluating patients` needs, administering physical therapy treatments as requested by referring physicians; observing any physical changes in the patients and reporting to physicians and others concerned; instructing physical therapy assistant aides with therapy treatments; participating in patient care meetings. The Physical Therapist also performs other duties as required. Regular weekend and evening work is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possession of a valid permanent California license as a Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy board of California as prescribed in Chapter 5.7, Article 3 of the Physical Therapy Act. (a photocopy must be submitted with the application) OR
2. Acceptance by the Physical Therapy Board of California for the next licensing examination (a photocopy of the letter of acceptance must be submitted at the time of filing).
NOTES:
A. Positions at California Children`s Services and San Francisco Unified School District - Special Education require, in addition to the minimum qualifications above, either six (6) months of physical therapist experience working with disabled children and two (2) six-week clinical affiliations working with disabled children or equivalent graduate-level study.
B. Positions at San Francisco Unified School District - Special Education are "School Term". School Term positions have eleven (11) month assignments beginning in September through the end of Summer School.

VERIFICATION OF LICENSE:
The license requirement must be met by submitting a photocopy of a valid registered Physical Therapist license issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California or a letter of acceptance to the next exam conducted by PTB. Failure to submit the required verification of licensure/certificate may result in rejection of the application.
SELECTION PROCEDURES:
Oral Performance Examination: Candidates will be tested to determine their relative knowledge, ability and skill levels in job-related areas. These areas may include but not be limited to:
A. Knowledge of physical therapy treatment methods
B. Ability to plan and evaluate physical therapy treatment programs
C. Knowledge of safety procedures
D. Record Keeping ability
E. Interpersonal relations ability

The Certification Rule for this selection procedure will be Rule of Three Scores.
In addition to the above selection procedure, departments may administer additional selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.
NOTES:
1. The number of persons to be placed on an eligible list will be determined by the needs of the department(s); therefore applicants who receive passing scores are not guaranteed placement on the eligible list.
2. If an applicant fails an exam and then successfully appeals, his/her name will be added to a subsequent list.
3. All City and County of San Francisco employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
4. Candidates with letters of acceptance to sit for the next licensing examination of the Physical Therapy Board are expected to pass the examination they have filed for. If an employee fails the first examination, they must sit for the next examination offered. If an employee fails two consecutive Physical Therapy Board examinations, they will be terminated immediately. The employee must submit proof of certification to the department supervisor upon notification from the Physical Therapy Board of California.
5. No waivers to offers of employment will be allowed.
