The San Francisco Employees’ Retirement System, a $15 billion public defined benefit pension trust, currently seeks experienced investment analysts who will be strongly committed to serving our members, and to prudently analyze and monitor a sophisticated investment portfolio allocated across a diverse range of asset classes. Under direction, the Security Analysts perform difficult and complex research work involving knowledge of private market investments (e.g., leveraged buyout, private equity, real estate and venture capital). 

The essential functions are:

1. Conducts research, analyzes primary source data and writes reports regarding the financial condition of an Individual company's total business Including product markets, financial condition, capital structure, earnings capacity, corporate strategy, investments and other relevant factors; calculates, evaluates and determines relative profitability and market or credit risk of individual company investments.
2. Reviews, evaluates and prepares reports on current financial strength of industries assigned on the basis of macro analysis, and constructs forecasts of the relative impact of expected economic developments on these industries; recommends possible investment candidates. 
3. Measures performance of investment managers and submits written reports and recommendations to the Chief of Investments or Portfolio Manager as assigned. 
4. Communicates verbally and in writing to superiors concerning investment action recommendations on companies and industries; indicates the portfolio implications of these recommendations in regard to determination of asset allocation. 
5. Establishes contact as directed with company representatives and outside consultants to secure financial data and evaluations on industries and companies reviewed. 
6. Evaluates investment market values and recommends purchase and transactions to Portfolio Manager; upon approval executes security transactions on most advantageous terms. 
7. Utilizes specialized investment software to access departmental data sources and analyzes the information.
8. Provides technical and administrative support in development and utilization of quantitative tools for use in management of the portfolio as well as development of quantitative and fundamental investment management processes. 
9. Assists in development of requests for proposals, vendor evaluation, and recommendations regarding quantitative models, tools and/or systems. 
10. Determines relevant benchmarks and develops custom benchmarks when necessary.
11. Provides support and assessment regarding methods utilized for measurement, monitoring and management of asset classes, sub-asset classes and individual manager risk.
12. Prepare and/or presents complex reports related to risk assessment and variances; recommend alternatives as needed.
13. Trains other investment personnel regarding use and utilization of models, tools and systems.

1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, with major coursework in economics, business, finance, banking or closely related field; AND
   
2. Three (3) years of relevant investment experience with a major financial institution, consulting organization, pension fund, endowment or foundation including experience monitoring and measuring performance within institutional portfolios and the capital markets; developing quantitative applications to analyze and monitor public and private investments including the qualitative skills for assessment and recommendations; AND
   
3. Computer proficiency including Windows-based software for database management, word processing, spreadsheets and investment-related software.

Desirable Qualifications:

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

• Possession of a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
• Possession of or in the process of completing the Certified Public Accountant license, the Chartered Financial Analyst program and/or the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst program.
• Minimum of two years of real estate and/or alternative investments experience. 
• Minimum of two years of institutional investment experience.

Training and Experience Evaluation: (Weight: 100%)
Candidates will be evaluated and scored based on the information provided in their job application, and supplemental questionnaire to determine their possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for position 4331 Security Analyst . All relevant experience, education and/or training must be on the application in order to be reviewed in the rating process. Candidates will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final training and experience evaluation score.
