This is a limited recruitment. Placer County Human Resources will begin accepting applications for Deputy Sheriff - Trainee on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 8:00am. The recruitment will remain open until either the first 450 applications have been submitted or until the filing deadline, whichever occurs first.
The Sheriff's Office currently has two vacancies for Deputy Sheriff - Trainee.
Qualified applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation to determine if they meet the high standards set by the Sheriff's Office in the areas including, but not limited to: high moral character, honesty, and exemplary work ethic. The Sheriff's Office also highly values those with a positive attitude toward fellow workers and the community they will be serving.

To attend a course of study necessary to complete the Basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Academy to become a Peace Officer.
The Deputy Sheriff Trainee is a recruiting and training level classification established to qualify candidates for duties as a Deputy Sheriff I in the Placer County Sheriff's Department. Incumbents of this class undergo a formal and comprehensive training program in a POST certified academy. Incumbency in this class is limited to a period not to exceed twelve months and to those who have not completed the basic POST academy. Positions in this class are distinguished from Deputy Sheriff I in that the Deputy Sheriff Trainee position is a non-sworn classification which has no police officer powers. Upon satisfactory completion of the training and graduation from the academy, the trainee will be sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff I with full police powers. Failure to successfully complete training as prescribed and therein graduation from the academy will result in termination.
Receives immediate supervision from supervisors and training staff.

Training: Completion of the twelfth grade or G.E.D.

The performance examination will consist of a series of job-related exercises and will be scored on a pass/fail basis.
Written Examination (100%)
Placer County administers the POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) as its written exam. T-scores received from this examination will determine applicant ranking on the eligible list. For more information regarding the PELLETB, click here.
Applicants who have completed the PELLETB as an applicant for another law enforcement agency within 6 months of their application submitted date may transfer the T-score received from that agency in lieu of testing. Those wishing to transfer T-scores must attach proof or verification of the PELLETB score, including examination title and date, on official letterhead from the agency. The Advance Score Forward form must also be completed.

All new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and management, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
