Placer County is currently accepting applications for Administrative Legal Clerk - Entry and Administrative Legal Clerk - Journey for the Corrections and Detention Division of the Placer County Sheriff's Office. Each level in this job series has different minimum qualifications.
To be eligible for more than one level in the series, you must complete and submit separate applications and supplemental questionnaires for each recruitment:
The Corrections and Detention Division of the Placer County Sheriff's Office currently has numerous positions available. These positions will be assigned to work in either Auburn or South Placer/Roseville. Incumbents will be assigned to work 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts, as well as nights, weekends, and holidays in a locked-down facility. All jail shifts are rotational, based upon seniority.
In addition to the Jail Incentive Pay listed above, individuals may also receive an additional 7.5% Night Shift Differential pay, as well as a $750 per year Uniform Allowance.
The eligible list established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill positions in the Auburn or South Placer/Roseville jail facilities only.
To perform a wide variety of general and legal clerical and routine secretarial duties related to the legal function and department assigned.
Administrative Legal Clerk - Journey
This is the full journey level class in the Administrative Legal Clerk series and is distinguished from the Administrative Legal Clerk - Entry level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Administrative Legal Clerk - Entry level.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEGAL CLERK – JOURNEY
Receives general supervision from management or supervisory positions, and may receive functional and technical supervision from clerical and secretarial personnel.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Two years of experience performing duties comparable to that of an Administrative Legal Clerk – Entry for Placer County.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License or Certificate:
May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.

The written examination may include multiple choice, true/false, fill-in, matching, and/or essay type questions directly related to the required knowledge and abilities for this classification.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination, which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation, sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation and/or be bonded.
All new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and management, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required). If you choose not to interview for a substantially similar classification, you will remain on the eligible list for which you originally applied.
