This recruitment will be used to fill both open and promotional vacancies in various County departments as they arise, subject to specific position requirements and CEO approval.
The following departments have vacancies at this time:
Placer County Auditor-Controller's Office
Placer County Sheriff's Office, Administration Division
Auditor-Controller's Office - This position will perform a variety of accounting analyses, create intricate spreadsheets, understand and follow laws and regulations, create and maintain comprehensive written procedures and perform detailed reconciliations. This job involves working on numerous multi-part tasks simultaneously, being able to understand and remember complex concepts to build upon in order to learn complete areas, frequent written and oral communication and many deadlines. Experience with property taxes, financial statements and/or auditing is preferred.
Sheriff's Office - The Sheriff's Office safeguards individual liberties, builds community partnerships, prevents crime, and resolves those crimes that do occur. The Sheriff's Office is also responsible for the professional care and custody of those confined within the county's jail facilities. Other duties and services include marshal, security of courts, and investigation of coroner cases.
To perform a variety of complex professional accounting and auditing work which depending on assignment may include any of the following; to review, analyze and maintain accounting and financial records; to develop and implement accounting and financial procedures and systems; to prepare complex financial reports; to monitor and report on budget trends, financial transactions, tax billings and collections, or accounts; to plan, coordinate and conduct audits of County departments, divisions, districts and funds; to provide recommendations for efficiencies and improvements; and may supervise or provide technical and clerical accounting and/or general clerical personnel.
This is the entry level class in the Accountant–Auditor series. This class is distinguished from the journey level of Accountant-Auditor II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters allocated to the journey level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision progressing to general supervision while learning job tasks.
Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel.
May exercise direct supervision over Account Clerk classifications or general clerical personnel.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: No experience is required.
Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, or a related field.
NOTE: Depending on the area of assignment, additional governmental accounting, auditing and finance experience which involves the application of State and local laws and/or governmental accounting standards may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis if:
Experience used to substitute for the required degree cannot also be used to meet work experience requirements.
License or Certificate:
May need to possess a valid driver’s license as required by the position and in accordance with the California Vehicle Code. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.

The written examination may include multiple choice, true/false, fill-in, matching, and/or essay type questions directly related to the required knowledge and abilities for this classification.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants for regular full and part-time positions must pass a medical examination which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation. Applicants for extra help positions may be subject to a drug screening. All applicants must sign a constitutional oath, submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. and be fingerprinted. The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
