Recruitments for Agricultural and Standards Inspector I and Agricultural and Standards Inspector II are being conducted concurrently. There are two separate recruitments; one for each level. Candidates must possess a Bachelors degree, no equivalent or substitution experience will be used to meet the Bachelors degree requirement.
The current position is permanent, full time. Applicants must be willing to spend approximately 75% of their time working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and occasionally work nights, weekends, and holidays. Incumbents will perform agriculture, pesticide and weights and measures regulatory compliance and enforcement work including invasive pest, quarantine, pesticide use, and commercial weighing and measuring device inspections.
To interpret and enforce laws and regulations of the State of California and the County pertaining to agriculture, pesticides, and weights and measures.
This is the full journey level class within the Agricultural and Standards Inspector series. This class is distinguished from the Agricultural and Standards Inspector I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the entry level.
This class is distinguished from the Senior Agricultural and Standards Inspector in that the latter performs complex and difficult agricultural/weights enforcement and inspection duties and exercises technical and functional supervision over other technical staff.
Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management staff and may receive technical and functional supervision from other technical personnel.

Experience: Two years of responsible agricultural weights and measures inspection experience performing duties similar to an Agricultural and Standards Inspector I with Placer County.
Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in agricultural, biological, chemical or physical sciences; OR
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in any discipline with a minimum of 30 semester units, in one or any combination of the following disciplines: agricultural, biological, chemical, or physical sciences.

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants for regular full and part-time positions must pass a medical examination which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation. Applicants for extra help positions may be subject to a drug screening. All applicants must sign a constitutional oath, submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. and be fingerprinted. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, be bonded or undergo a background check.
All new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and management, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
