The bi-weekly hiring rate established for this position is $1,733.96.

The McCurtain, Choctaw, Pushmataha and Bryan County Health Departments are recruiting a Health Educator for the expansion of the CATCH Kids-Club Program, The Certified Health Business Program, development of the Certified Health School program, development of the Certified Healthy Communities Program, and assistance with other community-based health improvements initiatives and agency priorities.  Under the supervision of the county administrator and in collaboration with the regional Turning Point coordinator, the person filling this position will assist in the development of community based needs assessments for the counties listed above, in order to determine the scope of community health issues.  Based on identified needs, this position will assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluating community health education programs that may include but are not limited to nutrition education, reduction of childhood and adult obesity, drug, alcohol and tobacco addition, teen pregnancy prevention and HIV?STD prevention in the McCurtain, Choctaw, Pushmataha and Bryan County Health Departments.  Under the supervision of the county administrator this position will coordinate wellness activities, assist in identifying and working with community partners such as schools, faith-based organizations, youth serving agencies, parents and other community resources that focus on prevention needs.

Position requires possible response to public health emergencies including, but not limited to, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, or catastrophic events.  The Oklahoma State Department of Health is tobacco free.  Employees are prohibited from using tobacco products throughout all indoor and outdoor areas of premises under the control of the Oklahoma State Department of Health, in all vehicles on those premises, and in state vehicles in use for OSDH business anywhere.  Applicants may be subject to a background check.

BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health education/promotion programs.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

The Health Educator job family consists of three levels, which are distinguished by the complexity of the duties performed, the depth and breadth of accountability, and the level of expertise required for completion of assigned tasks.

Level III:   
This is the leadership level where incumbents are assigned responsibilities for the supervision of others in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating health education/promotion programs.  This will include assigning and reviewing work, providing educator skills training and technical assistance, insuring the completion of required tasks and related administrative duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level II:    
Bachelors degree in Health Education, Health Promotions, Community Health, Kinesiology and Health Studies, Health Behavior, Nursing plus applicants must be eligible for certification as a Certified Health Education (CHES) pursuant to the criteria established by the National Commission for the Health Education Credential plus two additional years of experience of public health education or community development OR a masters degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Community Health, Kinesiology and Health Studies, Health Behavior, Nursing and eligible for certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) pursuant to the criteria established by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing plus one year experience of public health education or community development; or a bachelors or masters degree in another field with an official transcript demonstrating completion of 12 semester hours (or equivalent quarters) of coursework with specific preparation addressing areas of responsibility for Health Educators as defined by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing can substitute for specific degree requirements plus applicants must be eligible for certification as a Certified Health Education (CHES) pursuant to the criteria established by the National Commission for the Health Education Credential plus two additional years of experience of public health education or community development.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
