The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is offering rewarding and challenging promotional opportunities for Sheriff’s Sergeant. Responsibilities of Sheriff’s Sergeants include specialized technical functions such as crime investigation, warrant processing, training, or community relations; or they may supervise the activities of Deputy Sheriffs and other technical and clerical employees on an assigned work shift or in a patrol area.
Successful candidates will maintain the highest level of ethical standards. Additionally, candidates must embrace a progressive approach in the education and implementation of the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) model of policing.

APPLICANTS MUST BE WILLLING TO WORK SHIFTS AS ASSIGNED INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Satisfactory completion of thirty (30) units in an academic curriculum
from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of recent full-time, paid public law enforcement
experience.
Certificate: Possession of a valid Intermediate POST certificate.
License: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
SAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Acts as commander of a work shift in a division of the Sheriff's Office or as assistant to the watch commander, assigning deputies and directing them in the performance of their duties.

May be assigned as a detective, leading a team in the investigation of crimes.
-
Supervises crime scenes to insure the identification, preservation, and collection of evidence.
-
Acts as a special officer in a division of the Sheriff's Office, such as Community Relations Officer, Warrant Officer, Division Training Officer, or other.
-
Supervises deputies assigned to work as bailiffs in the Superior Court and serves as bailiff when necessary.
-
Supervises the activities of deputies and other technical and clerical employees in an assigned rural patrol area.
-
Performs any of the duties of a peace officer when so directed by the Sheriff.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for one of the processes listed below:
- Written Examination (weighted 100%).
Oral Examination (weighted 100%) – An oral examination includes a panel consisting of at least two members within a similar field of expertise as the vacancy. Candidates are asked structured questions and must respond orally to allow the panel to evaluate the specific qualifications of each applicant.
Written Examination (weighted 50%) followed by an Oral Examination (weighted 50%).
Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 6 months (the employment list established may be extended for an additional 6 months) and certified in final rank order to the Sheriff’s Office as vacancies occur.
