Summary Statement

The incumbent is one of three physicians assessing all hospital admissions for medical stability prior to admission and participates in the completion of all histories and physicals completed on all newly admitted individuals.  The incumbent previews client diagnoses and treatment for acute and chronic medical conditions by non-psychiatric physicians and related staff.  Duties include: working with and supervising Psychiatry residents, supervising contracted services pertaining to medical care, initiation and implementation of physical medicine policies/procedure; and coordination of physical healthcare with psychiatric services.

Essential Functions

  • Performs physical examinations, assesses condition, makes diagnoses, orders laboratory tests and makes recommendations and referrals.
     
  • Prescribes treatment, monitors patient's progress and adapts treatments.
     
  • Performs outpatient surgical procedures in scheduled and emergency situations.
     
  • Makes rounds with medical and nursing personnel; explains history, course of treatment, and current status of assigned cases; takes part in conferences concerning cases; recommends future treatment or action; counsels individuals and relatives about physical, medical and mental conditions.
     
  • Prepares various records such as progress notes and summaries; writes orders.
     
  • Instructs nursing and related medical staff in specific treatments.
      
  • Develops and administers comprehensive plans to ensure the most positive prognosis available.
      
  • Provide individuals and families with information regarding physical and medical status.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Physician
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Physician M.D. or Delaware Physician D.O. license or eligibility for a Delaware license.
  2. Six months experience in practicing medicine in a hospital, clinic or private practice.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Pre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.
