Summary Statement

A class incumbent is responsible for supervising daily activities of staff by coordinating case management and/or employment and training functions and assisting administrators in program assessments, planning and implementation.

  • Supervises a staff of 6-10 professional, paraprofessional and clerical employees.

Nature and Scope

A class incumbent reports to an administrative supervisor and is responsible for planning, assigning, evaluating, and reviewing work of staff.  An incumbent also makes recommendations on hiring and provides staff training. At this level, work involves providing technical guidance and assistance with complex cases. An incumbent participates in the development and implementation of programs and services through the review of existing and proposed policies, rules, regulations and procedures. An employee gathers and assimilates statistics, prepares and maintains special reports and statistical records. Incumbents also participate in the coordination and improvement of services and work with provider agencies to insure timely and efficient service delivery. In addition, an employee serves on task forces/committees and represents divisional programs/agency to the general public. Concurrently, an incumbent interacts with other agencies, provides information to and responds to requests from clients, community representatives, other agencies and the general public which involves explaining programs and policies, handling complaints and grievances and speaking before the public and groups are significant aspects of the work at this level.

  • Plans, coordinates, assigns, reviews and assesses unit workflow. Trains, hires, evaluates and supervises staff.
     
  • Participates in program planning, implementation and coordination to insure that program goals and current operations are in compliance with department and Federal/State rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
     
  • Gathers and assimilates statistics and information to insure program compliance.
     
  • Recommends and implements corrective action as necessary.
     
  • Coordinates with social service staff, agencies, providers and resources to provide comprehensive services for care and treatment of clients in a timely, efficient, and cost effective manner.
     
  • Represents the agency on task forces, committees and with the general public.
     
  • Provides information to clients, general public, community representative, and other agencies in order to explain programs and policies.
     
  • May plan and develop programs which includes writing grant proposals, completing all state clearing house documents, and implementing new grants when awarded.
     
  • Analyzes budget needs, develops recommendations regarding staffing, supply and equipment and may monitor current budgetary expenditures.
      
  • Prepares statistical and program evaluation reports.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Social Worker/Case Manager Supervisor
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Three years experience in case management which includes assessing, planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating options and services to meet an individuals human service needs.
  2. Three years experience in making recommendations as part of a client's service plan such as clinical treatment, counseling, or determining eligibility for health or human services/benefits.
  3. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  5. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  6. Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
