Seasonal Recreation Leader

The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department has a variety of summer employment opportunities for those looking to make a positive difference in the lives of our youth. All applicants must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug test in order to be employed. Examples of Duties

Recreation Centers/Parks/Playgrounds    

 

Summer Recreation Leader($9.00-$9.50)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; be able to commit to a 9- week schedule; be able to attend (2) four hour paid training sessions. Directs a variety of recreational leadership and educational activities at an assigned recreation center or playground. Assists in supervising games and sports, individual, group and special activities, arts and crafts, in addition to coaching and officiating team activities. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities, work evening hours, and work with participants of various ages, and work at various locations. Some experience working with children and some education or training in art instruction, recreation or physical education is desired.

 

Summer Specialty Camps

 

Mangrove Marcus Camp Leaders ($10.00 - $12.00 an hour.)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent plus experience working with school age children in a lead capacity is preferred; possess a valid Florida driver's license; be able to commit to a 5- week schedule; be able to attend (two) paid training sessions. Key leader in an all-day seasonal camp for children that is focused on a natural aquatic environment (Key Leader position does not require Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification) and oversees the day to day activities of the program, supervises campers and subordinate staff. Key and Camp Leaders must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outside setting, to oversee the safety of campers in an aquatic environment and to perform a high level of swimming ability in various aquatic settings. Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Bundle 2, (CPR/First Aid/AED) Bloodborn Pathogens and Oxygen Administration Certifications are required.

 

Joe Abrahams Sports Camps ($10.00 - $16.00 an hour,  Youth - $8.05 an hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older for Camp Director, Camp Key Leader and Camp Leader positions (OR 16 years or older for Joe Abrahams Sports Camps Youth Leaders); some experience working with school age children in a lead capacity or participation in organized sports leagues is preferred; possess a valid Florida driver's license is preferred; be able to commit to a 9-week schedule; be able to attend (two) paid training sessions. Must be able  to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outdoor setting, insures the safety of campers in a sports environment and to perform a high level of developmental instruction in various sports. Camp Leaders; lead activities in an all-day seasonal camp for children focused on an instructional sports environment. Youth Leaders: assist with activities in an allday seasonal camp for children focused on an instructional sports environment.

 

Summer Arts Program Leader ($10.00 an hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; possess a valid Florida Driver's License, be able to commit to a 6, 8, or 9 –week schedule. These positions implement hands-on art activities and encourage creativity in an artistic environment for children 6-14 years of age (Art Explorations Camp Only). Performs tasks at an art studio, recreation center, or playground. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities and work with participants of various ages. Some experience working with children and some education or training in art instruction is preferred. 

 

Summer Environmental Camp Leader ($10.00 an hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; possess a valid Florida Driver’s License; be able to commit to a 6-8 week schedule and attend a paid training; experience working with school age children in a lead capacity preferred, be able to work daily in an outdoor setting and participate in activities that are environmental and requiring physical stamina; work independently or in a group context ; oversee the day to day activities of the program and supervise campers.

 

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
