Introduction

This is highly responsible supervisory and technical work for the Wastewater Collections Division.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for setting and maintaining the direction of the collection zone teams at the Wastewater Collections Division which are tasked with cleaning, inspection, preventive maintenance, and emergency repair activities necessary to ensure the reliable, efficient and cost effective operation of the collection system. Under administrative direction, the employee performs assignments related to leadership and wastewater collection system preventative and reactive maintenance matters, which are complex and of unusual difficulty requiring the exercise of extensive initiative and independent judgment. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted and results obtained.

Examples of Duties

Provides assistance to the wastewater collection division manager in maintaining focus on the vision of the organization; continuously communicates the vision to other team members; leads by example; proactively interacts with the organization; builds and maintains a culture of trust.

Performs assignments related to wastewater collection system preventive and reactive maintenance matters; investigating and preparing responses to claims; coordinating emergency planning and response; coordinating special projects.

Coaches and motivates other team members and team leaders; facilitates communication within the teams; identifies problems in early stages and applies appropriate solutions; reviews/updates standard operating procedures (SOPs); evaluates performance of teams and team leaders; mediates employee disputes; makes timely decisions.

Stays current with industry trends and new strategies; ensures that sufficient resources are available; directs implementation of new strategies.

Supports the core business by removing obstacles, taking responsibility and making timely decisions.

Performs biannual review with team leaders; schedules face-to-face meetings with all utility technicians.

Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering, public or business administration, or construction management and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater collection system operations, construction and maintenance, including three (3) years of experience in supervision or management; or an associate's degree in engineering, public or business administration, or construction management and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater collection system operations, construction and maintenance, including three (3) years of experience in supervision or management

Comments

During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
