The Position

Current Solano County Library Department employees are invited to apply for this promotional opportunity.

The Library Branch Manager plans, organizes, and directs the operations of a number of branch libraries and related library outreach efforts to provide a comprehensive program of library services. The incumbent supervises and evaluates the work of staff, monitors and implements budgets, coordinates with administration and other managerial staff on policy and procedure, participates in public relations activities, and ensures proper maintenance and safety of the facility and equipment.

The Branch Manager will oversee two branches, with two supervisors reporting to the manager, within the Vallejo cluster: John F Kennedy branch and the Springstowne branch.

Branch Managers report to the Deputy Director of Public Services and serve as the primary liaison between the branches and administration. The positions involve frequent travel between branches.

  •  An experienced library supervisor with a strong record of accomplishments, professional commitment, integrity, and outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • An effective leader who has the ability to develop, identify, motivate and properly direct professional and supervisory staff.
  • Well versed in innovation and public library trends and able to create new opportunities for service or enhance existing services.
  • Able to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, implement recommendations in support of goals, and monitor the results.
  • A strong communicator and able to summarize and present information about the value and direction of the Library to varied audiences, including the staff, the community and other stakeholders, and other County departments.

This position is an "at-will" senior management position and is exempt from the civil service; incumbents serve at the discretion of the appointing authority.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience:  Four (4) years of professional librarian experience involving the provision of public library services including reference and collection development as well as programming including two years of experience supervising professional level staff.

Education:  Masters degree in library science from an accredited college or university is required.

Special Requirements:  Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license may be required.

Other:  Must be a current Solano County Department/Office employee.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2018 calendar year is $1,520.73 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

Vacation is accrued at approximately 15 days per year for the first 10 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. Effective July 1 of each year, 80 hours of administrative leave is granted

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years.
