Conditional employment
offers are based on successful completion of any preappointment
background investigation, drug testing, and medical/psychological
evaluation.
Most positions in the Sheriff’s Department, Probation Department, and the
District Attorney’s Office require a thorough background investigation
that may include a psychological and polygraph/computerized voice stress
analyzer exam prior to appointment. Other select positions may require
the same.
Possession of a Certificate of Proficiency in secretarial or clerical
studies from an accredited institution may substitute for up to one year
of the general clerical experience for the Administrative Assistant I/II/III
positions listed below.

You must respond to all notices you receive, either by email, US mail or
phone. If you do not respond, your application will be removed from
the computer system. In addition, you will be removed from the
Eligible List if:
a. The postal
authorities cannot locate you;
b. You do not respond to our Notice within five (5) working days;
c. You decline three (3) offers of an interview and/or hire;
d. The appointing authority (department) interviews you three (3) times
and you are not selected; or
e. Other reasons per Civil Service Commission rule 9.07.

Descriptions and Hourly Rates
Account Clerk : $14.57 - 17.71/hr. Performs routine and
repetitive clerical accounting functions involving balancing and
reconciling. One year of general clerical experience which included the
keeping of fiscal records is required. (Successful completion of a basic
bookkeeping course or its equivalent may be substituted for the required

Administrative Assistant Aide: $12.12 - 14.74/hr. Performs
a wide variety of clerical duties; the training level. Graduation from high
school or possession of a G.E.D. certificate at the time of

Administrative Assistant I: $13.35 - 16.23/hr. Performs
a wide variety of clerical duties; works with more independence,
demonstrates increasing levels of job knowledge and responsibility. Either
A: Six months of experience performing duties comparable to
Administrative Assistant Aide, Or B: One year of general clerical
experience including word-processing/computer experience. (Typing may be

Administrative Assistant II: $14.69 - 17.85/hr. Performs
the most difficult and complex clerical work, demonstrates proficiency in
all aspects of the unit assignment. Either A: One year of experience
performing duties comparable to Administrative Assistant I. Or B:
Two years of experience performing a wide variety of clerical and
administrative assistant duties including word-processing/computer experience.

Administrative Assistant III: $16.17 - 19.66/hr. Assists
other clerical staff with questions; assists the supervisor; acts in
his/her absence as required. Either A: One year of experience
performing duties comparable to an Administrative Assistant II. Or B:
Three years of experience performing a wide variety of clerical and
administrative assistant duties including word-processing/computer

Correctional Technician: $17.94 - 21.81/hr. Performs
a variety of clerical and technical duties in support of Correctional
Officers or Deputy Probation Officers. Graduation from high school or a GED
certificate. Two years of journeyworker level
clerical experience is required. Required to work shifts, weekends and

Library Driver Clerk I: $14.15 - 17.20/hr. Operates a bookmobile or
other library delivery vehicle; may perform a variety of clerical and
technical library functions in Support Services or in a library branch.
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate. LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
A valid driver’s license is required at the time of application. A valid CALIFORNIA
driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be

Patient Services Representative: $17.34
- 21.08/hr. Interviews
or contacts patients to obtain information needed for eligibility. Either
A: One year of experience performing clerical duties at the journeyworker level involving interviewing or decision
making; Or B: Graduation from an accredited college with an A.A. or
A.S. degree in the social or behavioral sciences; Or C: Two years of
experience performing duties comparable to the class of Community Services
