Introduction

San Joaquin General Hospital, located in French Camp, CA, is recruiting to fill one temporary position in the Purchasing and Distribution Services Department.   This position will require working Monday through Friday, 20-30 hours per week, and work hours may vary.  Duties will include but are not limited to the following:  delivering stock items to clinics, picking up packages, and picking up mail.  Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 points. Please note that depending upon the number of applications received, only a random number of names will be referred to the department for hiring consideration.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Picks up and delivers a variety of material including mail, heavy boxes, medical supplies, mail, equipment, records to and from various clinics, physicians offices, hospitals, County Departments, post offices, delivers interdepartmental mail and material to various locations.
  • Loads heavy boxes and supplies into delivery van. Delivers material to and from satellite clinics and Public Health.
  • Sorts interoffice mail and delivers to County mailroom. Hand carries mail to County Administrative Offices. Picks up and delivers mail from the mailroom and County departments to Health Services Agency destinations.
  • Provides lead direction to staff who may assist in delivery of mail, supplies, equipment and other material.
  • Ensures vehicle is properly maintained and arranges for recurring preventive maintenance.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    License or Certification: Possession of a valid California driver's license.

    KNOWLEDGE

    Traffic rules and regulations; safe methods of lifting heavy objects; safe work practices related to performance of manual tasks and operation of a motor vehicle.

    ABILITY

    See numbers and letters accurately and in sequence; sort mail; follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; lift heavy objects; follow pre-established routes for pick up and delivery of material.

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    Mobility-Must be able to climb stairs, walk and sit; Lifting-Be physically able to lift at least 30 to 70 pounds on a constant basis and frequently lift over 70 pounds. Must be able to lift and turn heavy objects frequently; Visual-Must be able to perform duties using overall vision including depth and color perception, eye/hand coordination and peripheral vision; Dexterity-Hold, reach, grasp, bend, push and squat while working with stock and supplies; Hearing/Talking-Must be able to hear normal speech, talk in person and on the telephone. Environmental-Transports material such as blood and other laboratory specimens. Works outside in varied temperatures when loading materials. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely.

    Selection Procedures

    Applicants for part-time and temporary recruitments who meet the minimum qualifications are either referred to the hiring department for further selection or they may be required to take a written examination.  If a written examination is given, the top candidates may be referred to the hiring department for further selection.

    Testing Accommodation:  Candidates who require testing accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) must call Human Resources Division at (209) 468-3370 prior to the examination date. 

    Physical Exam:  Some classifications require physical examinations.  Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the physical examination.  The County pays for physical examinations administered in its medical facilities.

    Pre-employment Drug Screening Exam:  Some classifications require a new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment.  Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the drug screen.  The County pays for the initial drug screen. 

    Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent, child, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) either by blood or marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or within the department when:

    • They are related to the Appointing Authority, or

    • The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other

    Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule. 

    Proof of Eligibility:  If you are offered a job, you will be required to provide proof of U.S. citizenship or other documents that establish your eligibility to be employed in the U.S.
