Introduction

The Agricultural Field & Laboratory Technician I will assist in establishing, maintaining, and harvesting experimental field trials and will be responsible for collecting samples and maintaining records of test results. An ideal candidate will possess knowledge of methods of planning, growing, treating and harvesting agricultural crops, the safe use of pesticides and other agricultural chemicals, and the safe use of tools and equipment.

TYPICAL DUTIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Note: Supplemental application must be submitted with employment application.
Experience: Six months of work experience which provided knowledge and familiarity with agricultural methods and practices.
License: Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Certificate: Possession of a current Qualified Applicator Certificate issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture preferred, required within six months of employment. For information regarding the certification, please click here.
KNOWLEDGE
Methods of planting, growing, treating and harvesting agricultural crops; safe use of pesticides and other agricultural chemicals; safe use of tools and equipment.
ABILITY
Learn to collect and prepare samples for analysis; operate and care for small farm field equipment; maintain detailed and accurate records; follow oral and written instructions; use basic mathematical calculations and formulations required in performing laboratory and field tests; express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Mobility-Occasional operation of keyboards, sitting for extended periods, pushing/pulling, climbing ladders, crawling, and climbing stairs; frequently standing for long periods, walking, driving and bending/squatting; Lifting-Frequently lifting 30 to 70 pounds or less; Vision- Excellent vision; frequent reading and close-up work; normal hand and eye coordination; Dexterity-Normal dexterity with frequent holding, reaching and grasping and occasional writing; Hearing/Talking-Frequent hearing and talking on the telephone/radio and in person; Emotional/Psychological-Frequent concentration with occasional public contact and decision making; Special Conditions-May require occasional overtime, weekend or evening work and repetitive data collection; data analysis, preparing reports and constant oral and written communication.
