Asst Musical Director (#TS9211)



DEFINITION

Under supervision this temporary seasonal position is responsible for assisting in certain artistic and musical aspects of theatrical production and works closely with the Musical Director and other Theater Arts Project staff and participants to stage a full-scale theatrical production.

TYPICAL DUTIES

Participates in the planning and organizing of artistic aspects of the theatrical production.  Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

·   Assist the Musical Director in selection and organizing orchestral participants. 

·   Provide artistic guidance to orchestra participants. 

·   Establishes and ensures compliance with  the rehearsal calendar. 

·   Develops and administers daily lesson plans. 

·   Supervises and evaluates program participants. 

·   Provide artistic input to other TAP staff. 

·   Completes program paperwork. 

·   Counsels participants on work-related issues. 

·   Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

License:  Possession of a valid California Drivers License

 

Education:  60 semester units from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in Music or closely related field. 

OR

Experience:  One year of experience performing as a musician, directing musicians in a theatrical or orchestral setting, or other musically related experience.

KNOWLEDGE

Musical theater and the importance of following the musical score, a variety of musical instruments, daily lesson plan implementation, rehearsal calendar implementation, supervision and leadership, barriers to economically disadvantaged youth, and child labor laws.

ABILITY

Read, write and interpret music; play one or more musical instruments; read, write and understand English; supervise approximately 20-30 youth orchestra members; provide clear and concise direction to participants and staff; learn and interpret basic program rules, regulations and procedures; follow oral and written direction; complete program paperwork including participant evaluations, and timesheets; work approximately 35 hours per week during summer months.

Mobility-Fequent standing for long periods; frequent walking; occasional pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, crawling; occasional driving; occasional climbing ladders; Lifting-Fequent lifting of 5 to 30 lbs.; occasional lifting of 30 to 70 lbs.; Visual-Fequent overall vision, color perception, eye/hand coordination, depth perception, reading and close-up work and peripheral vision; Dexterity-Frequent holding, reaching, grasping; occasional repetitive motion and writing; Hearing/Talking-Constant hearing normal speech; frequent hearing and talking on telephone/radio; constant talking in person; occasional talking over public address; Emotional/Psychological-Constant public contact, frequent decision-making, occasional heights, occasional hazardous materials; occasional concentration, occasional working alone, occasional working weekends/nights; occasional overtime;  Environmental Conditions-Occasional noise, dirt, dust, smoke, outdoor cold, heat, and rain.
