The mission of the City and County of San Francisco Department of the Environment (SF Environment) is to improve, enhance, and preserve the environment, and to promote San Francisco’s long-term environmental sustainability. SF Environment includes Zero Waste, Toxics Reduction, Environmental Justice, Clean Air Transportation, Climate Change, Energy, Green Building, Urban Forest and Public Information Programs.

Position Description: The Green Business Associate will be responsible for providing hands-on support to local businesses enrolled in the Green Business Program (www.sfgreenbusiness.org). This position will assist the Green Business Program team in performing professional level work that includes:
Assisting enrolled businesses in achieving green business recognition by performing indepth phone consults, on-site Green Business evaluations, conducting trainings, recording environmental best management practices in place, and collecting documentation of Green Business practices
Assisting in the development and maintenance of Green Business program standards, toolkits and resources,
Updating and maintaining content of the Green Business website and managing content of the green business program’s social media channels including Facebook, blog, and newsletter,
Quantifying the environmental benefits achieved through adoption of green business practices and developing case studies to document the successes of local green businesses.
Assist in administering the Clean Technology Payroll Expense Tax Exclusion
Baccalaureate degree in the environmental, science or related field from a recognized college or university.
Word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, database and internet proficiency.
Possess a valid California driver’s license.
Responsible and motivated. Able to work independently, and with a team.
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, researching, organizational and project management skills.
Knowledge of sustainability principles, environmental practices, and products.
Familiarity with San Francisco
Fluency in a second language used commonly in San Francisco.
Appointment Type: Permanent-Exempt. Appointee works at the pleasure of the appointing officer.
(1) This is a one-year position. A second year may be possible contingent upon City budget conditions and demonstrated competence and professionalism in the first year of employment. Participation in this program does not guarantee a second year of employment nor any future employment with S.F. Environment or the City and County of San Francisco.

Computer kiosks are located in the lobby of the Department of Human Resources, 1 South Van Ness, 4th floor, San Francisco, for use by the public. The hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
