Job Title: 1043 IS Senior Network Engineer

The Senior Network Engineer position reports to the Technical Project Manager through the Infrastructure Lead-Principal Engineer and is responsible for a scalable technical design and implementation for Project eMerge Cisco network infrastructure. The Senior Network Engineer will ensure the smooth operation of the Project eMerge network that will support an enterprise PeopleSoft web-facing application, Oracle database and Oracle WebLogic web servers.  This PeopleSoft system will run on three IBM BladeCenter chassis’, 34 IBM BladeServers, embedded Cisco Intelligent Gigabit Ethernet Switch Modules, Cisco 6509 switch, Cisco ACE Web Firewall Module, Cisco ACE Firewall Switch Module, Load Balancers and Cisco ACE Intrusion Prevention Modules. As the Senior Network Engineer, you and the team will continually operate and enhance the eMerge network to provide reliable service to the intranet and internet users. The Senior Network Engineer will work closely with the Security Engineer to identify security vulnerabilities, maintain HIPAA compliance, and provide technical solutions. You will also collaborate with other Infrastructure team members and City departments to make network user policy recommendations and technical enhancements and will present requirements and designs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain this would be: three to four years of directly related experience that demonstrates a wide range of knowledge and abilities of the application programming function.

 

Training: Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, business administration, or a closely related field.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

·         Over seven years network experience with an enterprise-level network in an engineering or design role.

·         Senior-level operational experience with enterprise/carrier-class routers and switches; Cisco experience preferred.

·         Excellent knowledge of network protocols and standards.

·         Experience with configuring and deploying ACE contexts, IPS devices, and virtualized firewall.

·         Strong written and oral English-language skills to clearly present network engineering solutions.

·         Ability to work in a team environment.

·         Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

·         Network certifications such as CCNP/CCSP/CCIE (or equivalent training/experience) are preferred.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS

BENEFITS

All employees hired on or after January 10, 2009 will be required (pursuant to San Francisco Charter Section A8.432) to contribute 2% of pre-tax compensation to fund retiree healthcare. In addition, most employees are required to make a member contribution towards retirement, typically a 7.5% of compensation.
