According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109.3.2, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned 7317 Senior Water Service Inspector and are not intended to be an inclusive list.
1. Supervises water service inspectors in performing various investigations, tests and inspections related to complaints and emergency calls of water service quantity and quality and applicable water conservation programs, leaks in the system, cross connections and back-flow and irregularities in billing.
2. Participates in performing the more difficult water service tasks and handles the more important negotiations with water service customers and/or their representatives and other public agencies where a high level of decision making is required.
3. Schedules, surveys and conducts field flow tests of water service meters to verify any overage and/or shortage; calculates water flow for irregularities in billings and other customer services.
4. Observes and records registrations of water flow through meters of transmission supply lines, chlorine residuals and pressures, and makes any required adjustments as necessary.
5. Makes comprehensive surveys and field investigations regarding water service quantity and quality in various types of buildings, including commercial establishments, industrial plants, and other building structures.
6. Responsible for investigations and tests for possibilities of cross connections and back-flow when evidences of such cases are suspected. Tests for faulty valves and issues orders for replacement of faulty valves.
7. Disinfects new and repaired water mains, fittings and reservoirs with disinfecting compounds such as hypochlorite solutions, chlorine gas, etc.
8. May supervise water meter readers and be responsible for various programs and special projects as delegated by the Chief Water Service Inspector.
Knowledge of: Customer Service, Water Quality, and Water Supply divisions operations and procedures; disinfection procedures; water conservation programs; water distribution systems and consumer services; water meters and domestic and commercial plumbing systems and fixtures.
Ability to: perform detailed and accurate field investigations; interact tactfully, courteously, effectively and objectively with the general public, customers, coworkers and department personnel; coordinate, plan, assign and review the activities of water service inspectors and meter readers; write, prepare, maintain and document clear and logical records, reports and correspondence pertaining to water service investigations, operations and conditions; effectively convey information verbally pertaining to methods and procedures, explain complex ideas clearly; manage special projects/programs and plan, schedule, and coordinate the work assignments of water service inspectors and water meter readers on a daily basis.
1. Two (2) years of experience in various phases of utility service field investigations. (Qualifying experience should be equivalent to the duties and responsibilities of a 7316 Water Service Inspector); AND 2. Possession of a current valid Class C driver's license.
Notes: Positions at the Airport Commission are required to obtain Back-Flow Testing /Cross Connection Certification and Grade I Water Treatment Operator Certification within (1) one year of hire.
