THE JOB: Under supervision, provide technical support and training in the use of departmental computer systems and equipment; install, operate and maintain computer hardware, software and networks; participate in analyzing and recommending office systems applications and appropriate hardware; learn office automation and command language programming; and do other work as required. The current vacancy is a full-time position in the District Attorney’s office, working on and assisting with various aspects of hardware/software solutions, data/case management tools, audio-visual presentations and emerging body-cam and related cloud-based data storage technology.
THE REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of at least two courses in computer science, office automation, information processing or a closely related field, AND one year of experience in the operation of a mini or mainframe computer or in the use of a variety of microcomputer software program applications.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of computer hardware and software installation; computer software packages used to support automated office systems. Some knowledge of the uses and limitations of micro, mini and mainframe computer applications; and the principles and techniques of automated information entry, storage and retrieval.
Ability to: Trace, identify and resolve basic hardware and software malfunctions; install, operate and maintain computer equipment and local area networks; learn to train others in the use of computer hardware and office automation software; perform simple analysis and programming tasks for the purpose of automating typical office procedures; write procedures for technical manuals; read and interpret technical manuals and instructions designed for the operation of computer equipment and software; learn office automation and command language programming; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
THE EXAMINATION: Your application and supplemental application will be reviewed to determine if you have met the education, experience, training and/or licensing requirements as stated on the job announcement. If you meet these criteria and are one of the best qualified, you may be required to compete in any combination of written, oral and/or performance examinations or a competitive evaluation of training and experience as described on your application and supplemental application. You must pass all components of the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The examination may be eliminated if there are ten or fewer qualified applicants. If the eligible list is established without the administration of the announced examination, the life of the eligible list will be six months and your overall score will be based upon an evaluation of your application and supplemental application. If during those six months it is necessary to administer another examination for this job class, you will be invited to take the examination to remain on the eligible list.
