THE JOB: Under general supervision, provide technical support and training in the use of desktop systems and equipment; analyze County departments information processing procedures and recommend appropriate technology applications; and do other work as required. The current vacancy is in the Information Services Department. This position focuses on helpdesk duties and desktop deployment of end user workstations. The Information Services Department services most of the county departments and deploys and supports Windows OS, MS Office, and other vendor and in-house applications.
THE REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these would be:
Two years of experience providing technical support and training in the use of hardware and software for automated office systems.
OR
Completion of two years of course work in systems analysis, computer science, office automation, information processing, data processing or closely related field and one year of experience analyzing, designing and automating office systems.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of the principles and methods of automated records management systems; the uses and limitations of micro and mini computer applications; and the principles and techniques of automated information entry, storage and retrieval. Some knowledge of programming or procedure languages used to modify, reprogram or interface computer software and hardware; the principles of systems and procedures analysis; and training design and delivery.
Ability to: Define problem areas, collect and evaluate data, validate conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; establish and maintain effective relationships with operating department staff, vendors and others contacted in the course of work; learn and apply programming and procedure languages and tools; read and interpret a variety of technical manuals and instructions designed for the operation of computer equipment and software; work effectively with others in a team environment; design, present and evaluate training; plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement recommendations; write instructions and procedures and prepare systems and programming documentation; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
THE EXAMINATION: Your application and supplemental application will be reviewed to determine if you have met the education, experience, training and/or licensing requirements as stated on the job announcement. If you meet these criteria and are one of the best qualified, you may be required to compete in any combination of written, oral and/or performance examinations or a competitive evaluation of training and experience as described on your application and supplemental application. You must pass all components of the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The examination may be eliminated if there are ten or fewer qualified applicants. If the eligible list is established without the administration of the announced examination, the life of the eligible list will be six months and your overall score will be based upon an evaluation of your application and supplemental application. If during those six months it is necessary to administer another examination for this job class, you will be invited to take the examination to remain on the eligible list.
