THE JOB: This is the entry and trainee level in the Information Center class series. Positions in this class learn and provide technical support and training in the use of Information Center systems and equipment; perform simple programming tasks; learn to test and install hardware and software and assist in analyzing and recommending information systems applications and learn to act as an expert in the major areas of Data Center support including server systems. Duties also include monitoring of the Data Center server environment and County backup applications, as well as first level support of the County network printer environment.
THE REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of at least two courses in computer science, office automation, information processing, data processing or closely related field
AND
One year of experience researching and expanding automated work processes, which require an increasingly technical understanding of the capabilities and limitations of hardware and software used for office automation support.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of micro-processing, word processing or mainframe equipment and software applications used to support automated office systems.
Ability to: Trace, identify and resolve basic hardware and software malfunctions; establish and maintain effective relationships with operating department staff, vendors and others contacted in the course of work; perform simple analysis and programming tasks for the purpose of automating typical office procedures; read and interpret a variety of technical manuals and instructions designed for the operation of computer equipment and software; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and work effectively with others in a team environment.
THE EXAMINATION: Your application and supplemental application will be reviewed to determine if you have met the education, experience, training and/or licensing requirements as stated on the job announcement. If you meet these criteria and are one of the best qualified, you may be required to compete in any combination of written, oral and/or performance examinations or a competitive evaluation of training and experience as described on your application and supplemental application. You must pass all components of the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The examination may be eliminated if there are ten or fewer qualified applicants. If the eligible list is established without the administration of the announced examination, the life of the eligible list will be six months and your overall score will be based upon an evaluation of your application and supplemental application. If during those six months it is necessary to administer another examination for this job class, you will be invited to take the examination to remain on the eligible list.
