THE JOB: Under general supervision, to participate in and supervise the activities at several sites of a small non-emergency x-ray section; and to do other work as required. The work involves performing x-ray procedures on prisoners, corpses and other Coroner cases. *The official job title for this position is Chief Radiologic Technologist.
THE REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledges and abilities would be:
One year of work experience as a certified Radiologic Technologist.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Diagnostic Radiologic Technology certificate issued by the State of California.
Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and techniques of taking x-rays; and the principles of radiation safety. Working knowledge of x-ray equipment, its uses and limitations; and human anatomy as it relates to taking x-rays. Some knowledge of efficient radiology laboratory operation; and the principles of supervision and training.
Ability to: Schedule, direct and evaluate the work of subordinates; direct the operation of a small x-ray section; take a variety of x-rays; operate and care for x-ray and related equipment; follow and transmit detailed oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients and others contacted in the course of work; prepare solutions and process exposed film; position patients for x-ray procedures; learn and perform x-ray procedures on cadavers; instruct others in the procedures and techniques of radio-graphy; and prepare reports.
THE EXAMINATION: Your application and supplemental application will be reviewed to determine if you have met the education, experience, training and/or licensing requirements as stated on the job announcement. If you meet these criteria and are one of the best qualified, you may be required to compete in any combination of written, oral and/or performance examinations or a competitive evaluation of training and experience as described on your application and supplemental application. You must pass all components of the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The examination may be eliminated if there are ten or fewer qualified applicants. If the eligible list is established without the administration of the announced examination, the life of the eligible list will be six months and your overall score will be based upon an evaluation of your application and supplemental application. If during those six months it is necessary to administer another examination for this job class, you will be invited to take the examination to remain on the eligible list.
