THE JOB: Under direction, provide technical support and training in the use of departmental computer systems; configure, test and deploy, computers, software applications, printers, peripherals and other equipment; troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues, document existing systems, changes and processes; do other work as required. The current vacancy is for the Human Services Department, as part of the desktop support team.
THE REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of two years of course work in systems analysis, computer science, office automation, data processing or closely related field and one year of experience analyzing, designing and automating office systems.
OR
Two years of experience providing technical support and training in the use of hardware and software for automated office systems.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of the uses and limitations of micro, mini and mainframe computer applications; the principles and methods of automated records management systems; and the principles and techniques of automated information entry, storage and retrieval. Some knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of a variety of software packages used to support automated office systems; office automation programming and command languages and tools used to modify or interface software and hardware; the principles of systems and procedures analysis; training design and delivery; and the hardware in the department to which assigned.
Ability to: Conduct training sessions; communicate with departmental personnel not familiar with data processing and translate their needs into automated office system requirements; analyze basic business problems and develop office automation applications; read and interpret a wide variety of technical manuals and instructions designed for the operation of computer software and hardware; meet project time lines; identify and take corrective actions to solve software and hardware problems; communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including writing clear, concise and detailed instructions and procedures, and preparing systems and programming documentation; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
THE EXAMINATION: Your application and supplemental application will be reviewed to determine if you have met the education, experience, training and/or licensing requirements as stated on the job announcement. If you meet these criteria and are one of the best qualified, you may be required to compete in any combination of written, oral and/or performance examinations or a competitive evaluation of training and experience as described on your application and supplemental application. You must pass all components of the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The examination may be eliminated if there are ten or fewer qualified applicants. If the eligible list is established without the administration of the announced examination, the life of the eligible list will be six months and your overall score will be based upon an evaluation of your application and supplemental application. If during those six months it is necessary to administer another examination for this job class, you will be invited to take the examination to remain on the eligible list.
